Dominican singer-songwriter Juan Luis Guerra will headline the closing ceremony of the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo on August 8. The ceremony is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. inside the Arena Banreservas Virgilio Travieso Soto.
Guerra will perform Canto a la Patria, a patriotic composition he wrote and donated to the Dominican state in 2006. He will be accompanied on stage by the choir Mas que vencedores in what organisers describe as one of the most emotional moments of the closing event.
The presentation is planned as a core highlight of the finale, paying tribute to the Dominican Republic and recognising more than 900 individuals involved in producing the centennial ceremonies. Artistic producers are keeping all other details and acts in the show schedule confidential.
Guerra is one of the most prominent figures in Latin music, credited with bringing Dominican genres such as merengue and bachata to global prominence. The Central American and Caribbean Games, held every four years, is the oldest regional multi-sport competition in the Americas, with the 2026 edition taking place across the capital city.

Dominican stage comedy at the National Theatre
A new stage comedy titled Ni locas ni cuerdos will open this weekend at the Sala Ravelo inside the Teatro Nacional in Santo Domingo. Shows will take place on Friday and Saturday at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 6:30 p.m., with tickets retailed through Boletería.com.do.
The play stars two Dominican actors who frequently portray gay characters. Written by Ariel Feliciano, directed by Josema Rodríguez, and produced by Alexander Corleone, the production relies on humor, irony, and shared scenarios to reflect on public perception and the difficulties of being typecast in performance roles.
Audience members will watch the character creation process, see behind-the-scenes moments, and take part directly in the show. The production noted that the central message of the play is that everyone interprets characters in everyday life.
The Teatro Nacional, situated in Santo Domingo's Plaza de la Cultura, is the main performing arts venue in the Dominican Republic. Its intimate Sala Ravelo serves as a dedicated space for Dominican drama, experimental theatre, and chamber productions.

A free public concert initiative titled Que viva la patria, organised by the Presidency of the Republic, will take place at the Arco del Triunfo in San Juan de la Maguana on Sunday at 8:00 p.m.
The lineup features salsa singer Yiyo Sarante, merengue artist Eddy Herrera, and urban music performer Bulín 47. Designed for audiences of all ages, the event will combine Yiyo Sarante's salsa repertoire, Eddy Herrera's dance merengues, and the energetic urban sound of Bulín 47 as each artist performs their main hits.

San Juan de la Maguana is a major urban and agricultural center in the western region of the Dominican Republic. Its landmark Arco del Triunfo monument, constructed in the 1930s, forms the central civic gathering point for public celebrations and state events.
