Julian Zakrzewski Hall scored his second goal for the United States national team to help Mauricio Pochettino's side secure a 4-2 victory against Chile.
The teenager, receiving his first call-up to the senior US national team training camp, delivered a crucial equaliser six minutes after half-time. Chile had taken a 2-1 lead in the 49th minute through a strike from Maximiliano Gutierrez. Zakrzewski Hall responded just two minutes later in the 51st minute, heading home a cross from Giovanni Reyna.
The goal restored momentum to the American side, who scored two further goals to complete the victory. Zakrzewski Hall played 71 minutes before being replaced on the pitch by Mathis Albert.
International eligibility and Polish interest
Zakrzewski Hall plays his club football for New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer, the top professional division in the United States and Canada. The forward is also eligible to represent Poland because his mother is Polish, creating interest in whether he might wear Poland's traditional white-and-red colors. Under FIFA rules, playing in friendly matches does not permanently tie a dual-national player to one country, leaving a switch to Poland technically possible. However, his strong performances mean American officials are expected to do everything they can to retain him permanently.
United States head coach Mauricio Pochettino selected Zakrzewski Hall in his starting lineup against Chile following an impressive debut performance off the bench earlier in the training camp against Peru.
Debut goal and upcoming fixtures
In that opening fixture against Peru, Zakrzewski Hall needed only 10 minutes after entering the match as a substitute to score. He converted a pass from Sebastian Berhalter with a sliding finish in the 72nd minute and later provided an assist as the United States earned a 4-1 victory.
The American squad continues its current training camp with upcoming matches against regional rivals Mexico and Canada. Zakrzewski Hall's international success follows a standout season in Major League Soccer, where he has recorded 10 goals and four assists for New York Red Bulls, prompting expectations that a transfer to a European league could follow in the near future.
