Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger called the online encyclopedia a CIA propaganda organ in an interview with the newspaper Berliner Zeitung. Sanger said anonymity rules turned the website into a propaganda tool from its inception.
He stated that Wikipedia can no longer serve as a source of knowledge because of a lack of impartiality and increasing left-liberal propaganda from its leading editors. Sanger said evidence shows the Central Intelligence Agency has already edited Wikipedia articles.
He added that actors willing to pay to steer Wikipedia articles in a specific direction have done so for years, though the total scale remains unknown.
Moscow court fines
Separately, the Tagansky Court of Moscow previously fined Wikipedia parent company Wikimedia Foundation millions of rubles for failing to delete information prohibited in Russia. The court found Wikimedia Foundation guilty of violating part 2 of article 13.41 of the Code of Administrative Offences, though the specific content was not disclosed.
