Nikos Romanos Calls Alexis Tsipras Remarks Tragicomic

Prime Minister Digital Communication Director Nikos Romanos called Alexis Tsipras statements on justice, ethics, and the economy tragicomic during an appearance on the Open television show Deka Mazi. Romanos described hearing Tsipras address those topics as infuriating, provocative, and tragicomic.

Romanos stated that former ministers had reported Tsipras for maintaining a shadow ministry of justice at Maximos Mansion and keeping parliament open to modify the Criminal Code for specific interests. He noted that Tsipras has two convicted ministers and faced complaints from media owners currently hosting him regarding specific anti-institutional interventions, involving envoys sent from Maximos Mansion to negotiate funding and stake buyouts.

Party Funding and Financial Transparency

Romanos emphasized the need to learn how Tsipras party is funded, asking who finances the party and how all its events and operations are paid for. He stated that party representatives were supposed to present financial details starting from the first week, but months have passed while the public still hears only promises.

Responding to claims by a SYRIZA representative on the panel that everything in Tsipras new party operates on a voluntary basis, Romanos questioned whether party events of ELAS are a sponsorship and, if so, by whom. He stressed that having volunteers is entirely different from failing to present an income and expense statement, which every serious organisation is required to produce.

Economic Record and Opposition Tactics

Romanos also commented on the economic record of the SYRIZA government, stating that taxes rained down on the middle class at a time when growth and quantitative easing rained across the rest of Europe. He concluded that the overall opposition is unable to articulate realistic counter-proposals, resulting in political campaigning based on fake news.
