A postal terminal owned by Nova Poshta in Odesa region caught fire on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, following a Russian attack.
Oleh Kiper, head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported the incident on Tuesday and confirmed that emergency responders extinguished the blaze without any reported casualties.
Kiper said that enemy forces continued to strike civilian infrastructure across Odesa region. He specified that the postal terminal had previously suffered damage during earlier strikes before catching fire in the latest attack.
Nova Poshta is Ukraine's largest private express logistics and postal provider, maintaining a critical distribution network for civilian packages, commercial goods, and humanitarian aid. Odesa region, located in southwestern Ukraine along the Black Sea coast, is a vital economic hub that has faced recurring air attacks throughout the conflict.
Repeated strikes on Odesa facility
The attack on September 1 was the second strike on the same Nova Poshta facility in Odesa Oblast within two days. On August 31, a strike on the terminal triggered a fire that partially destroyed the building.
The August 31 hit also destroyed a primary sorting line at the facility. Officials confirmed that the destroyed equipment is beyond repair.
Firefighters from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine extinguished the blaze. The agency operates as Ukraine's main civil defense entity, responsible for firefighting and rescue efforts. Regional military administrations oversee civilian security and local infrastructure during martial law.
Destruction of Sumy and Kyiv centers
The strikes in Odesa follow earlier damage to Nova Poshta infrastructure in other Ukrainian regions. During a previous strike on August 28, Nova Poshta lost a sorting center in Sumy, a city in northeastern Ukraine near the border with Russia.
The same August 28 attack destroyed Nova Poshta's modern automated fulfillment center near Kyiv, Ukraine's capital. The resulting fire destroyed 60,000 books from major Ukrainian publishing houses stored at the site.
Automated fulfillment centers are advanced distribution warehouses that rely on robotic systems to handle bulk inventory, packaging, and order processing for commercial clients.
Shift to decentralized logistics
Following the loss of its key sorting facilities, Nova Poshta announced a transition to a decentralized operational model. Under the new strategy, individual freight and postal branches will carry out warehouse functions to maintain delivery operations.
Nova Poshta had not commented on the September 1 strike in Odesa Oblast at the time of publication. The company's move toward decentralized warehousing aims to safeguard supply chains against concentrated infrastructure losses.
