Ukrainian forces have launched an attack on Russia's Samara Oblast, inflicting damage on civilian facilities in the region, Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishev said.
Writing on his official Telegram channel, Fedorishev stated that preliminary information indicates there are no fatalities resulting from the strike.
The governor reported that forces from the Ministry of Defence of the Russian Federation were deployed to the area alongside mobile firing groups to manage the operational response and secure the region.
Fedorishev urged residents across Samara Oblast to maintain calm following the attack. He also reminded citizens of strict legal prohibitions against publishing photos or video footage depicting the consequences of Ukrainian drone strikes, a measure intended to prevent enemy forces from assessing damage or locating air defense positions.
Massive overnight drone attacks across Russian regions
The attack in Samara Oblast follows a major overnight barrage on August 31, when Russian air defense systems intercepted and shot down more than 200 Ukrainian drones across 15 regions of Russia.
According to official reports, that earlier wave of strikes targeted a wide range of territories, including Kaluga Oblast, Samara Oblast, Saratov Oblast, and Tula Oblast, as well as the Moscow region and Crimea.
Samara Oblast is an administrative region situated in southwestern European Russia within the Volga Federal District, centered along the Volga River. The region, whose administrative capital is the industrial city of Samara, sits hundreds of miles east of the border with Ukraine and houses key manufacturing and infrastructure sites.
Mobile firing groups are tactical defense units equipped with rapid-fire automatic weapons, heavy machine guns, and searchlights mounted on light vehicles to counter low-altitude unmanned aerial vehicles. Telegram is the primary messaging platform used by Russian regional officials to issue public safety directives during air attacks, while Crimea is a peninsula on the Black Sea that was annexed by Russia from Ukraine in 2014.
