Oskar Pietuszewski cleared for FC Porto return from injury

FC Porto winger Oskar Pietuszewski has returned to full fitness ahead of Sunday's league fixture against Guimaraes, the Portuguese club announced on Friday.

The Portuguese champions confirmed in their Friday training report that the 18-year-old winger is fully ready to play. Pietuszewski had been named on the substitutes' bench for Wednesday's 4-1 Champions League victory over Napoli, but he remained an unused substitute because his physical condition was not yet certain.

Porto stated that the teenager's recovery clears the path for him to feature against Guimaraes on Sunday, 8 November, with kickoff scheduled for 19:00. The Portuguese league fixture offers the young winger an opportunity to make his first appearance on the pitch since late October.

Thigh injury against Gil Vicente

Pietuszewski suffered an injury setback on 24 October when he felt discomfort in his thigh during the warm-up before a league match against Gil Vicente. The Polish attacker had originally been selected in the starting eleven, but Italian head coach Francesco Farioli was forced to replace him with Borja Sainz moments before kickoff.

The thigh trouble interrupted a campaign that had already been hindered by physical problems. Pietuszewski missed the opening part of the season before returning to play in four matches and scoring one goal. His last appearance on the pitch came on 20 October, when Porto suffered a 1-0 defeat against Dutch side PSV in the Champions League.

Porto squad and league form

While Pietuszewski has been cleared to return, Porto's medical update confirmed that Farioli remains unable to call upon several other squad members. Experienced defender Chris Smalling is currently undergoing clinical treatment, while Vasco Sousa and William Gomes are both restricted to individual training with limited workloads.

Porto enter the fixture against Guimaraes holding a perfect record of ten victories from ten matches in domestic league competition this season. The Portuguese side also secured their first three points in the current edition of the Champions League in midweek, following their 4-1 win over Italian club Napoli.
