Neither reached the result he wanted. Papastamos finished 6th in 4:14.99, making a big push in the final stretch to try to reach the top four and contend for a medal, but fell short. Vlachogiannakos placed 7th in 4:16.12.

Bilas misses the final

Stergios-Marios Bilas, the 2024 European champion in Belgrade, set a Greek record in the first 50m butterfly semifinal, finishing 4th in 22.79 to beat the national mark he had set that same morning in the heats. Despite the swim, he did not qualify for the final, ending his championship in 9th place.

Evangelos-Efraim Doumas, the 17-year-old European junior champion competing at his first senior European Championships, placed 7th in his 100m breaststroke semifinal in 59.92, finishing 15th overall.
