Peruvian migration officers and national police executed the expulsion of 23 foreign nationals after a joint inspection at the Puno Land Terminal in Puno.
The two-hour enforcement action targeted 26 foreign citizens at the transit hub, revealing that roughly 88 percent of those checked had failed to undergo mandatory border controls upon entering Peru.

According to official reports, the authorities inspected 21 Venezuelans, two Bolivians, one Ecuadorian woman, one French woman, and one Dominican woman during the operation. Following verification of entry records, officials determined that 23 individuals were residing in the country irregularly after failing to complete required migration procedures.
The 23 individuals ordered for expulsion comprised 21 Venezuelan citizens, one Ecuadorian woman, and one Dominican woman. Authorities confirmed that three of the intercepted foreign nationals, including the two Bolivians and the French citizen, were not included in the expulsion order after their documentation was reviewed.
Role of Peruvian police and migration agencies
The operation was led by the Puno Zonal Office of Migraciones alongside specialized units from the National Police of Peru, including the Department of Human Trafficking and Illicit Smuggling of Migrants and the Tourism Police Station. Officers spent approximately two hours evaluating identification documents and checking digital entry registries to establish individual migration statuses.
Migraciones, formally known as the Superintendencia Nacional de Migraciones, is the specialized government agency responsible for immigration control, passport issuance, and foreign residency management in Peru. Operating under the Ministry of the Interior, the agency maintains regional zonal offices, including the Puno Zonal Office, to monitor immigration compliance across Peru's borders and territory. Under Peruvian migration law, foreign nationals entering the country are required to present valid travel credentials and clear official border checkpoints. The National Police of Peru, or PNP, provides operational support through specialized divisions such as the Department of Human Trafficking and Illicit Smuggling of Migrants and the Tourism Police Station. These units regularly conduct joint inspection sweeps in transport infrastructure to prevent human trafficking, document fraud, and unauthorized entry.
