Polish football club Raków Częstochowa is moving forward with long-awaited plans for a new municipal stadium after regional heritage authorities gave preliminary approval to demolish part of a historic industrial complex in the southern city of Częstochowa.
According to the Polish Press Agency, the provincial conservator of monuments in Katowice agreed to the demolition of 1960s production halls, which form the newest section of the historic Elanex textile factory site.
City officials and club leaders announced the development during a joint press conference held on the Elanex grounds. First Deputy Mayor Zdzisław Wolski said the city is starting design work for the new municipal stadium on the site known as Przędzalnia Przyszłości, or Spinning Mill of the Future.
Częstochowa Deputy Mayor Łukasz Kot said after the press conference that an amendment to the city budget and multi-year financial forecast will be submitted for council consideration on Thursday, August 27.
Kot said municipal leaders plan to allocate 250,000 PLN for stadium design work this year, followed by 2 million PLN in 2027 and 3 million PLN in 2028.
Stadium design and site history
Raków Częstochowa president Wojciech Cygan told the Polish Press Agency that the approval represents the first concrete step toward building the new stadium.
Cygan said the club will be a demanding partner for the city throughout the development process. He also confirmed that standing room will be included on the stand occupied by the team's most passionate supporters.
Finding a suitable home venue has been a major challenge for Raków Częstochowa for several years. Infrastructure limitations at their current stadium have forced the club, nicknamed Medaliki, to play home European cup matches in other Polish cities.
Club and municipal leaders originally selected the former Elanex textile factory grounds on the edge of Częstochowa's Old Town in 2024. The city purchased the property from a bankruptcy receiver in December 2025 for 22.5 million PLN.
Although local authorities later evaluated alternative locations, Raków pressed to remain at the Elanex site. Club officials favored the location because surrounding commercial and sports-adjacent developments near the city center could help generate revenue to support the stadium's ongoing operation.
City authorities plan to commission the detailed stadium concept design as soon as municipal councillors vote to pass the proposed budget changes.
