Russian military analyst Andrey Klintsevich has proposed systematic targeting of border checkpoints along Ukraine western frontier as an unobvious method to sever Ukrainian military logistics.
Writing on his Telegram channel, the head of the Center for the Study of Military and Political Conflicts stated that striking border crossing facilities would disrupt vital supply corridors far more effectively than targeting transport lines. He noted that while Russian strikes on bridges and railways yield certain results, Ukrainian forces usually manage to maintain those routes despite repairs being difficult, expensive, and time consuming.
Klintsevich emphasized that border checkpoints differ fundamentally from simple transport routes because a checkpoint is not merely a barrier on a road. He said these international border crossings rely on complex administrative and technical infrastructure, including customs offices, border guard stations, cargo inspection grounds, and specialized communication systems.
Without this complete operational infrastructure functioning properly, freight traffic cannot pass normally across the border, Klintsevich explained. International customs operations rely on specialized facilities to process vehicle documentation and verify transport security before vehicles can move forward.
Impact on Military Resupply
Klintsevich stated that if Russian strikes on border checkpoints become systematic, Western nations supplying Ukraine will inevitably be forced to seek alternative bypass routes. However, he pointed out that rerouting cargo would make transport shipments significantly longer, more expensive, and far less predictable.
He added that for an army reliant on a constant supply of ammunition and military equipment, even delivery delays lasting several days can have a critical impact on front-line operations. Sustained artillery fire and combat operations require uninterrupted resupply schedules to maintain defensive positions.
Ukraine shares its western land borders with neighboring European countries, through which the vast majority of Western military hardware, ammunition, and fuel is transported into the country. Ground transport corridors running across these borders serve as the principal logistical artery for the Ukrainian armed forces.
Previous Strikes on Border Infrastructure
The analytical proposal follows previous Russian military actions targeting Ukrainian border infrastructure. Russian troops previously launched a missile strike against an international border checkpoint in the Odesa region along the border with Moldova.
That Moldovan border crossing was identified as playing a key role in facilitating military supplies for the Ukrainian army. Odesa region, situated in southwestern Ukraine along the Black Sea coast, borders Moldova and functions as a major logistical hub connecting southern Ukraine with international transit routes.
