Russian citizens with 42 years of work experience earning national median salaries can receive monthly pension payouts exceeding 30,000 rubles, according to Igor Balynin, an associate professor at the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.
Speaking to state news agency TASS, Balynin explained that under current individual pension coefficient values and fixed payment rates, retirement benefits scale directly with total employment history.

According to figures provided by Balynin, a worker with 25 years of service history who earns the national median wage receives a monthly pension of around 22,000 rubles. The calculation incorporates both the fixed financial payout and the value of individual pension points set for the current year.
Pension Calculations by Service Length
For individuals with 30 years of work experience, the estimated monthly payout rises to up to 24,549 rubles, while 35 years of employment increases the monthly benefit to up to 27,043.05 rubles. The highest maximum pension of up to 30,534.72 rubles is allocated to workers who complete 42 years of service.
Russia's state pension system calculates monthly benefits using a formula that combines a standard fixed payment with accumulated individual pension coefficients, commonly referred to as pension points. The Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, located in Moscow, is a major public higher education institution that trains economists and advises state bodies on financial policy.
Median Salary Growth in Russia
Balynin noted that Russia's median salary has increased significantly over the past five years, rising from 35,370 rubles to 65,307 rubles.
He suggested that by the end of the year, the national median earnings figure could potentially rise further to between 70,000 rubles and 73,500 rubles.
Unlike average wage metrics, the median wage marks the precise middle point of national earnings, where half the working population earns more and half earns less. This statistical measure provides a baseline for state social security planning and pension benefit modeling.
Requirements for Higher Pension Payouts
Balynin previously explained that workers seeking a monthly pension exceeding 40,000 rubles must accumulate at least 200 pension points over their careers.
Pension points are accrued annually based on compulsory insurance contributions paid into the national pension system by employers relative to an employee's official wage.
