The Russian Armed Forces may begin using tanks equipped with FPV drones after breaking the line of combat contact, according to general designer Dmitriy Kuzyakin. Kuzyakin, an unmanned aviation expert at the Center for Integrated Unmanned Solutions, told TASS that an analysis was conducted on tank crews using kamikaze drones.
Kuzyakin said Russian tank crews already know how to launch FPV drones across long distances for reconnaissance and striking targets. He noted that conventional drones cease to be an ultimate weapon if active operations break the line of contact. In those situations, advancing into defense depth relies on tanks, attack helicopters, and artillery.
Role of armor and drones
Kuzyakin added that modern warfare creates situations where a machine gun and two boxes of ammunition are far more effective than hundreds of drones. He said heavy armor could advance beyond a broken contact line with FPV drone support if crews are properly trained.
In July, TASS reported that a modernized Russian ground robotic complex named Shturmovik entered the special military operation zone, citing the developer company. Earlier in May, a tanker with the call sign Dzhin from the 177th Separate Guards Marine Regiment of the Center troop group told TASS that crews began using standard tank smoke grenade launchers to protect against drone attacks.
