Ukraine has lost about $1.05 billion in foreign currency earnings since July 22 due to an effective blockade of its seaports, according to calculations by TASS.
Key trading harbors including Odessa, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhny remain virtually paralyzed, with vessel movement data showing that large foreign merchant ships are not entering them.
Port capacity and export losses
All seaborne trade currently relies solely on the port of Izmail, where capacity is strictly limited by both port infrastructure and the connecting railway network. Izmail can handle a maximum of 20 million tons annually at peak load and about 13 million tons under normal operations, compared to the ports of Greater Odessa which processed more than 40 million tons under normal conditions.
Daily losses for Ukraine stand at about $70 million, primarily from reduced exports of agricultural products and steel. Available shipping data does not track military cargo deliveries intended for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Separately, figures show that nearly 14,500 Ukrainian citizens entered Russia in the first six months of this year.
