Saudi Arabia issued an emergency warning today regarding potential new attacks in southern regions of the kingdom near the border with Yemen.
The emergency alert specifically covered the city of Abha and the surrounding area near Khamis Mushait. According to civil defense, the warning was lifted quickly after being put in place.
Civil defense officials stated that the alert was of limited duration. The notice applied to southern locations that had already been targeted earlier this week by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
Cross-border security threats
Abha is the capital of Asir province, located in the Sarawat Mountains of southwestern Saudi Arabia near the Yemeni border. Khamis Mushait is a major commercial center situated approximately 25 kilometers east of Abha in the same province, making it one of the largest urban areas in the region. Asir province borders the Red Sea to the west and shares a southern frontier with Yemen.
Earlier, the Houthi movement announced that its positions had been targeted by dozens of Saudi airstrikes over the preceding 24 hours.

The Houthi movement, officially known as Ansar Allah, is an Iran-backed political and military group based in Yemen. The organization controls Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and significant portions of the country's northern territory along the Saudi border.
