Spanish Influencer Roro Apologizes Over Peru Slur Backlash

Spanish influencer Roro apologized publicly after an old social media reply mocking Peru resurfaced and triggered widespread criticism, particularly from Peruvian users on TikTok and X.

The controversy began when an old post surfaced in which a user asked Roro if she was Peruvian. She had responded with the word "never" alongside a vomiting-face emoji. The screenshot spread quickly online, with thousands of users sharing it and accusing her of xenophobia.

Roro admitió que el mensaje ofensivo lo escribió a los 17 años, resaltando que ahora, a sus 24, ha cambiado su perspectiva y siente admiración por Perú y su cultura. Fotos: Instagram.

Roro, who had already been at the center of controversy in recent days over her participation in La Velada del Año 6, an annual boxing event organized by Spanish streamer Ibai Llanos, once again became a trending topic as users revived the debate over whether influencers should be held accountable for posts made years earlier.

Roro responds to the criticism

Facing the wave of backlash, Roro broke her silence and confirmed that she was the author of the comment that had angered thousands of Peruvians. She said she was 17 years old at the time and had been influenced by a meme that was circulating in Spain about Peru.

She said the comment people had seen was something she wrote at 17, calling herself an ignorant kid at the time who found amusing a meme about Peru that was popular in Spain. She added that she is now 24 and is a different person who no longer holds the same mindset she had as a teenager.

Roro apologizes and praises Peru

The influencer went on to offer a public apology and said she now admires the country. She said she was sorry from the heart if she had offended anyone, adding that she has said many times that Peru is one of her favorite countries and has one of the best cuisines in the world. She closed her statement with a white heart emoji.

Ibai Llanos' La Velada del Año has become one of the biggest annual events in Spanish-language streaming, drawing major influencers and content creators to a boxing card broadcast to millions of viewers, which is why Roro's past comments drew renewed scrutiny once she was announced as part of this year's lineup.
