Bitcoin treasury company Strategy has bought approximately $370 million in bitcoin, ending a market pause and returning its balance sheet to a positive position. The corporate purchase involved 4,603 bitcoins acquired at an average price of $80,318 per coin.
The transaction raises Strategy's total cryptocurrency inventory to 845,050 bitcoins, purchased at an overall average price of $75,412 per coin. The newly announced purchase leaves the company's bitcoin holdings with a positive balance of $2.68 billion.
That surplus marks a major recovery for Strategy after sharp market declines reduced portfolio values earlier in the year. A severe drop in bitcoin prices at the start of 2026 had plunged the firm's inventory into a deficit ranging between $10 billion and $15 billion.
Bitcoin treasury strategy and market recovery
Corporate bitcoin treasuries allow companies to hold digital assets on their financial balance sheets as primary reserve assets alongside traditional cash reserves. Because digital currencies experience significant price volatility, the market value of corporate reserve holdings can fluctuate sharply over short periods based on prevailing crypto trading prices.
Strategy operates as a treasury management company focused on acquiring and holding bitcoin as its principal reserve asset. The company's business model relies heavily on acquiring digital assets during market cycles and maintaining long-term cryptocurrency exposure to build balance sheet value.
Before this latest transaction, Strategy had not reported a bitcoin purchase since June 22, according to company data. During the intervening pause, the firm conducted multiple cryptocurrency sales that resulted in nearly 7,000 bitcoins being sold from its corporate inventory.
Recent transaction history and inventory changes
The decision to resume buying marks a shift in Strategy's recent trading activity following weeks of asset liquidations. By adding more than 4,600 coins to its reserves, the company has consolidated its holdings above the 845,000 bitcoin threshold despite earlier market turbulence.
With an average purchase cost of $75,412 across its total inventory, Strategy's balance sheet remains sensitive to broader cryptocurrency price movements. The return to a $2.68 billion positive valuation comes as the company continues to manage its portfolio through regular financial disclosures.
