Greek police arrested two foreign nationals on the island of Kefalonia on July 31, 2026, after a series of jewelry store thefts totaling more than 12,500 euros in stolen goods.
Officers from the Argostoli Crime Investigation Department detained the men, aged 22 and 25, near Fiskardo shortly before they could leave the island. Both face charges of participating in a criminal group and aggravated theft.
According to police, the pair entered jewelry stores posing as customers and used various distraction techniques to keep staff occupied while removing items from display cases without being immediately detected. Investigators linked them to two completed thefts and one attempted theft across the areas of Skala, Argostoli, and Lassi.
When searched, police found jewelry worth an estimated 30,000 euros hidden inside a plastic shampoo container in their car, along with 1,050 euros in cash, a precision scale, and mobile phones. The recovered jewelry was returned to its rightful owners.
The two were brought before the Kefalonia Misdemeanor Prosecutor. Police said the investigation is continuing to determine whether the men were involved in further similar offences. Their vehicle was also seized.
