Amy Hunt became the fastest woman in Europe on Monday night by winning the 100m gold medal at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham. The 24-year-old sprinter completed the race in 11 seconds to secure her first major victory.
Miss Hunt, who stands 5ft 10in, had previously won English Schools races on the same Birmingham track. Although she is considered better at 200m, her gold medal makes her a major prospect for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
"I want it all, and I think I'm someone who doesn't shy away from what she knows she can do," Miss Hunt said after winning the final. "I knew I could come away with a gold coming into the day. I had such a big premonition, and I just love my job. This is what makes it the best. My first gold. I think it was definitely time for an upgrade."
Academic background and school years
Raised in Newark, Miss Hunt attended Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School, the grammar school also attended by former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. Like Thatcher, she studied chemistry at A Level, while also playing the cello.
She later studied at Corpus Christi College at the University of Cambridge, earning a degree in English Literature. She financed her studies with earnings from track events and sponsors, joking when she graduated two years ago, "I just got one degree hotter."
Social media and life in Italy
Between training sessions, Miss Hunt regularly shares updates with her social media followers. Her posts feature her posing in a party dress with a bottle of wine during her student days, watching a Taylor Swift concert, carefully curating her wardrobe, and relaxing in a bikini beside an infinity pool.
Glasses of wine and other drinks in sun-baked squares are a regular fixture on her social feeds. She currently lives and trains a 20-minute train ride from Venice, where she enjoys viewing Italian art.
Described as a Renaissance woman, Miss Hunt said last year that her current motto was "Medals before men," adding she was not down about the choice. "My two little legs have left me living the life of my dreams," she said.
