Five foreign nationals were rescued from a boat off the coast of Ierapetra, on the Greek island of Crete, in an operation coordinated by the Hellenic Coast Guard.

According to reports, a Frontex drone spotted the boat first. Coast Guard personnel then picked up the five people from the sea and transferred them to the port of Ierapetra.

The rescued migrants said other passengers who had been aboard the boat were rescued earlier by a vessel of the Libyan coast guard, according to the report.

The Hellenic Coast Guard said it was continuing search efforts for anyone who might still be missing.
