Wieczysta Krakow have sacked manager Kazimierz Moskal less than 20 hours after a derby defeat to Cracovia, despite the 59-year-old previously dismissing departure rumours as media speculation.
Moskal had insisted immediately following the loss against Cracovia that reports about his exit were fabricated and driven by journalists. However, the club management moved quickly to dismiss the coach less than a day after his post-match comments.
The dismissal ends Moskal's spell at Wieczysta, where he had been in charge since November 21, 2025. He earned a permanent place in the history of the club, which is led by businessman Wojciech Kwiecien, by guiding the team to their long-awaited promotion to the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Polish football.
However, the former longtime Wisla Krakow player and manager ultimately lasted only four top-flight league matches in charge before being relieved of his duties.
Four games in the top flight
Wieczysta began their maiden Ekstraklasa campaign under floodlights with a 2-1 defeat away to Radomiak. That historic opening fixture was followed by another 2-1 defeat against reigning Polish champions Lech Poznan.
The Krakow side recorded their first victory in their third league fixture, winning a high-scoring match 4-3 against Piast in Gliwice. However, the subsequent derby loss against local rivals Cracovia sealed the fate of the 59-year-old manager.
Speculation has quickly turned to who will replace Moskal on the bench at Wieczysta. Rafal Gikiewicz mentioned that Portuguese coach Goncalo Feio would definitely not be taking over, adding that the former Legia Warsaw and Radomiak manager had turned down an offer to lead the Krakow team.
John Carver linked with job
Journalist Mateusz Borek pointed to an alternative candidate, suggesting 61-year-old English manager John Carver. Carver left Lechia Gdansk following their recent relegation from the Ekstraklasa.
Writing on social media platform X, Borek joked that while there would not be a second part of the movie Get Carter, he heard that a Get Carver scenario was possible.
Tomasz Galinski of WP SportoweFakty commented on the post, noting that Carver watches every Ekstraklasa match and remains completely up to date with Polish football.
Carver took charge of Lechia Gdansk in December 2024 and successfully guided the club away from relegation thanks to an impressive spring campaign during the 2024/25 season.
However, the team fell out of the top division a year later, struggling in defence and conceding 65 goals across the campaign. During his time in charge of Lechia Gdansk, the Englishman oversaw 51 league matches, recording 20 wins, nine draws and 22 losses.
