EasyJet cabin crew in France file month-long strike notice

Cabin crew at British low-cost airline easyJet in France have filed a month-long strike notice running from August 7 to September 2, 2026.

The action, called by three flight attendant trade unions, threatens to cause delays and cancellations for passengers traveling with the carrier across France throughout August. Union leaders stated that specific key dates of massive strike action will be announced 48 hours in advance, fulfilling requirements set under French labor regulations.

Crew exhaustion and schedule instability

The trade unions representing cabin crew, known in France as personnel navigant commercial, cite severe working conditions as the driving force behind the dispute. Representatives reported that staff are physically and mentally exhausted due to chronic instability in flight rosters and frequent last-minute schedule modifications.

According to the easyJet branch of the Union des navigants de l'aviation civile, cabin crew frequently face changes such as increasing daily duties from two flights to four, or being reassigned from morning shifts to evening shifts. The union stated that such adjustments occur dozens of times per month and sometimes several times within a single day, leaving crew members unable to organize their personal lives.

Union officials also highlighted a disparity in company rules regarding schedule changes. While easyJet pilots are permitted to reject schedule alterations up to twelve times per year, cabin crew members are allowed only two rejections annually.

Contractual disputes and base assignments

The inter-union group further criticized the practice of assigning French cabin crew to other operational bases across easyJet's network for several days at a time. Staff contracts specify that crew members are assigned to a designated home base in France, with monthly flight schedules required to be published by the 17th of each preceding month.

Unions maintain that management is no longer respecting either of these contractual guarantees. Gaël Leloup, a union delegate for UNAC CFE-CGC easyJet, stated that cabin crew colleagues have reached their limit after experiencing nearly a year without a concrete response from company management to their concerns.

The strike notice was submitted jointly by three unions: UNAC CFE-CGC, SNPNC-FO, and UNPNC-CFDT.

Management response and scheduled talks

Management at easyJet expressed deep disappointment over the strike filing and called on union leaders to withdraw the notice. Airline officials described the planned industrial action as counter-productive during one of the most critical travel periods of the year.

The company stated that it had already proposed specific measures to address staff concerns, though management declined to provide further details regarding those proposals. The airline also reminded union representatives that formal negotiations between management and crew representatives had already been scheduled for September 2026.

French operations and takeover offer deadline

easyJet is the second largest airline operating in France by passenger volume, ranking behind national carrier Air France. The British low-cost airline employs 1,074 cabin crew members across its French network.

The carrier's operations include an average of approximately twenty daily flights arriving at and departing from Toulouse-Blagnac Airport in southwestern France. Regional flight schedules at the Toulouse hub face potential disruption if the industrial action proceeds as planned.

The dispute coincides with a critical financial deadline for the airline. Two American investment funds, Castlelake and Apollo, have been pursuing an acquisition of easyJet and have been given until August 7, 2026 to finalize their takeover offer.
