The European Union has expanded its sanctions list against Russian individuals by adding the leaders of two major defense companies, according to an announcement on the Council of the European Union website.
The restrictions target Ramil Badgutdinov, general director of JSC Serpukhov Plant Metallist. The enterprise specializes in manufacturing systems used in Russia's Iskander-M ballistic missile. The EU also sanctioned Alexander Dyukarev, head of JSC Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant, which produces ballistic missiles including the RS-28 Sarmat.
A press release from the Council of the European Union stated that additional individuals and companies were included for undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine.
Upcoming Sanctions Package
Earlier reports indicated that EU authorities plan to adopt a 22nd package of sanctions against Russia by mid-October. Sources said these upcoming measures will focus primarily on preventing the evasion of existing restrictions and will likely be targeted.
