Polish sprinter Ewa Swoboda has revealed she plans to buy a house in Croatia and keep farm animals after she finishes her professional athletics career.
The 29-year-old runner discussed her retirement ambitions during an appearance on the Lekkie Gadki program on Polish public broadcaster TVP Sport, recorded at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow.
Asked by journalist Aleksander Dzieciolowski near the end of the broadcast whether she had considered her post-competition life, Swoboda confirmed she had and stated her desire to settle in Croatia. She explained that she wants to own many animals, adding that while she currently has dogs, cats, and fish, she intends to acquire even more, including cows and pigs.
Swoboda admitted that she would also welcome an olive grove or a fig grove on her property, noting that fresh figs straight from the tree taste good. Shifting topics during the conversation, the athlete confessed that she will probably want to have a baby in the future, though she emphasized there is no rush.
Retirement plans and upcoming races in Chorzow
When questioned on whether she intends to remain in athletics or get involved in another sporting discipline after retiring, Swoboda indicated she would likely step away from sports altogether, stating that she will see but probably will not.
Swoboda is one of Poland's prominent track athletes, specializing in short-distance sprint events. Her comments came shortly after returning home from the British Isles, where she competed at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham, winning silver in the individual 100 meters and bronze in the 4x100-meter relay.
Swoboda will compete on home soil in the near future at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzow. The women's 100-meter competition takes place on Sunday, August 23 at 5:53 p.m., serving as the final event before the official medal ceremony.
