Resale platforms such as Leboncoin are reporting surging prices for old glass mustard pots decorated with Disney characters, footballers, and animated series. The collectible items are attracting buyers driven by nostalgia and collectors searching for rare designs.
On the television show Bonjour ! La Matinale TF1, journalist Adrien Portron highlighted online listings including a Titeuf glass for 2 euros and a Super Mario World glass for 9 euros. He noted that a glass featuring the 1980s cartoon character Dr. Snuggles reached nearly 30 euros.
Alternative buying options
Prices on internet resale sites are significantly higher than traditional secondhand venues. Speaking to Le Figaro, Olivia, a blogger who created the website Our Little Family, said she buys mustard glasses for between 0.40 euros and 1 euro at flea markets or Emmaüs shops. She added that she was in shock over the online price increases.
Many of the buyers drank from the glasses at their grandparents' homes when they were younger. Checking unused cupboards could yield a few euros for owners willing to sell their old glasses rather than leaving them to gather dust.
