Borussia Dortmund winger Giannis Konstantelias has undergone knee surgery in Germany following a severe cruciate ligament rupture suffered during his club debut.
Knee specialist Dr Thor Zantop performed the operation in Germany following the injury sustained by the 23-year-old Greek international on August 29.
Dr Zantop posted a photograph on social media showing himself smiling alongside Konstantelias after the surgery, writing that the winger should get well soon and that rehabilitation was beginning immediately.
Although Konstantelias will begin his physical recovery program right away, the player is set to remain out of action for several months.
Borussia Dortmund confirmed the left knee ligament rupture in an official club announcement, stating that the entire BVB family stood behind him and expressing confidence that he would return stronger.
Surgical Procedure and Recovery Outlook
Anterior cruciate ligament ruptures represent one of the most severe injuries in professional football. Surgical reconstruction is required to stabilize the joint, followed by extensive rehabilitation before an athlete can resume full competition.
Discussing the player's outlook on The Football Show, medical specialists Nikolaos Piskopakis and Andreas Piskopakis stated that Konstantelias has a 98 percent probability of returning to his former playing level once recovery is complete.
Match Debut and Injury History
The injury occurred during Borussia Dortmund's opening matchday fixture of the Bundesliga season against Hamburg at the Westfalenstadion, which Dortmund won 2-0.
Konstantelias had enjoyed a memorable start to his debut match, scoring a goal and delivering an impressive performance before the setback early in the second half.
The Greek winger stumbled while attempting to dispossess an opponent of the ball, immediately falling to the pitch while clutching his knee in visible pain.
Dortmund medical staff rushed onto the field to provide first aid. Konstantelias managed to stand up and limped off the pitch as a substitute while breaking down in tears.

The sudden injury cast a shadow over the victory and sparked immediate alarm among Borussia Dortmund management following the match.
Sporting director Ole Book and general manager of the football department Lars Ricken appeared visibly distraught in their post-match media statements at the stadium as fears of a torn ligament mounted.
