Google has launched the Pixel 11 Pro XL smartphone at a starting price of 1,399 euros while reducing the base memory configuration from 16 GB to 12 GB of RAM. The price increase comes as manufacturers across the consumer electronics sector pass rising component costs onto buyers during an ongoing global memory shortage.
The new flagship model was officially presented on August 12, following industry-wide price hikes by rival technology companies Samsung and Apple. Testing of a 512 GB version in sandstone finish by Spanish newspaper LA RAZÓN showed that while Google improved hardware performance, the base configuration offers lower overall value than previous generations.
Higher Prices and Memory Cuts
Google has eliminated the 128 GB storage option across its Pro lineup and altered its memory distribution. Standard Pro models now ship with 12 GB of RAM, a memory capacity not seen in Google's flagship series since the Pixel 8 Pro.
To obtain 16 GB of RAM, which had been standard since the Pixel 9 series, buyers must purchase at least the 512 GB storage variant. That model costs 1,529 euros, compared to the predecessor Pixel 10 Pro XL which launched at 1,299 euros for 256 GB of storage with 16 GB of RAM.
The price adjustments make the previous model more attractive to cost-conscious buyers, particularly if existing stock receives discounts. Reviewers noted that the shift in pricing structure compromises long-term memory allocation for base-tier customers despite hardware refinements elsewhere in the device.
Design Updates and Display Brightness
Exterior changes on the Pixel 11 Pro XL refine the design language introduced in earlier models. Google replaced the metal trim on the rear camera housing with a continuous piece of edge-to-edge glass while preserving the matte glass back panel.
The obsidian color variant features a matte aluminum frame, whereas other color options maintain polished, glossy edges. The overall construction continues the premium build quality established by the company since the Pixel 9 series.
Front panel improvements focus on the 6.8-inch Super Actua display, which retains a variable refresh rate ranging between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. Peak display brightness has risen by 300 nits to 3,600 nits, improving legibility under direct sunlight.
Google stated that the display glass features a protective coating that doubles scratch resistance compared to earlier panels, though this was not verified in testing. While peak brightness helps outdoors, everyday indoor visibility remains largely comparable to the Pixel 10 Pro XL.
Tensor G6 Performance and Thermal Management
The Pixel 11 Pro XL is powered by Google's new Tensor G6 system-on-chip, a custom processor engineered for artificial intelligence workloads. Google reported that the chip delivers 25 per cent faster web browsing, 15 per cent faster application launch speeds, 20 per cent greater power efficiency, and a 50 per cent boost in neural processing unit capability.
In routine day-to-day operations, performance gains over the Tensor G5 are subtle. A side-by-side startup test conducted by LA RAZÓN showed that both the Pixel 10 Pro XL and Pixel 11 Pro XL required approximately 12 seconds from power-on to reach the SIM card PIN entry screen.
Thermal management shows a more pronounced difference during active usage. Temperature monitoring using the CPU-Z diagnostic utility recorded readings between five and six degrees Celsius lower on the Pixel 11 Pro XL under matching conditions, indicating better heat dissipation in a device family historically prone to running warm.
Camera System and Generative AI Zoom
The rear camera assembly retains three main modules but includes upgraded sensors and optics. The primary 50-megapixel camera sensor enlarged to 1/1.3 inches, providing improved image detail between 1x and 3x magnification.
The telephoto camera uses a 48-megapixel sensor capable of capturing 32 per cent more light, paired with a 5x optical lens. Between 5x and 30x digital zoom, the device crops the central sensor area and applies computational photography algorithms to reduce noise and maintain sharpness.
For magnifications beyond 30x up to a maximum of 120x, an on-device generative artificial intelligence model reconstructs missing pixel data to generate clearer composite images. A third 48-megapixel ultrawide camera with a 123-degree field of view remains virtually identical to the prior generation.
Photography software additions include Instant Night Sight, which reduces the duration a user must hold the device still during low-light captures. Another feature, Magic Capture, records short video clips with a single tap and automatically extracts high-resolution photographs optimized for action scenes such as sports, children, or pets.
The camera software also adds Camera Styles for color aesthetics, along with creator tools such as an integrated teleprompter and framing guides. A new hardware notification element named HiLight adds colored LED lighting to the camera bump, lighting up in one of five user-selected colors for incoming calls or during interactions with Google's Gemini assistant.
However, HiLight functionality remains limited at launch because it cannot display notifications for third-party messaging services such as WhatsApp. Google stated that it intends to expand HiLight features through future software updates.
New Software Features and Gemini Integration
The Pixel 11 Pro XL runs Google's Android operating system with several new software capabilities built around artificial intelligence. A dictation tool named Rambler converts casual voice notes into structured text while filtering out filler words.
An Instant Translation tool provides automated audio dubbing for videos and podcasts, while Circle to Search now operates directly through live camera viewfinders without requiring users to capture a static photo first. Quick Share file transfer functionality has also expanded compatibility to interoperate with Apple's AirDrop protocol.
Google introduced proactive assistant features within Gemini, designed to generate contextual suggestions based on on-screen content, notifications, location, and connected applications. However, this proactive assistant feature is not initially available to users in Spain.
Verdict and Model Comparisons
The overall review concludes that the Pixel 11 Pro XL represents an incremental refinement rather than a major generational leap for owners of a Pixel 9 or Pixel 10 device. The primary upgrades center on enhanced low-light and long-range camera capabilities, increased screen brightness, and improved thermal control.
Because the base 256 GB model costs 100 euros more than its predecessor while reducing RAM to 12 GB, the value proposition for entry-level buyers has declined. Unless shoppers specifically require the revised camera system or cooler operating temperatures, the Pixel 10 Pro XL remains a strong alternative if purchased at existing or discounted prices.
