Max Verstappen signs new Red Bull F1 deal until 2030

Max Verstappen has signed a new contract with Red Bull Racing, extending his commitment to the Austrian Formula 1 team until the end of 2030.

The four-time Formula 1 world champion was previously under contract until 2028. The new agreement adds two additional years to his existing deal, ensuring he will spend four more years driving for the team. By the time the contract expires, Verstappen will have completed 15 seasons with Red Bull Racing.

The announcement puts an end to widespread rumors suggesting the Dutch driver might leave Red Bull or depart Formula 1 entirely. Speculation over his future had been fueled by actions from his management, persistent rumors, his voiced concerns regarding the next generation of Formula 1 cars, and his expressed interest in competing in other forms of motorsport.

Red Bull Racing, based in Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom, is the flagship Formula 1 racing team owned by Austrian energy drink company Red Bull. Verstappen joined the team in 2016 and won four consecutive drivers' world championships, establishing himself as one of the most successful drivers in modern motor racing history.

Financial details and contract terms

Negotiations between Red Bull Racing leadership and Verstappen's management lasted for several months before the final agreement was signed. Under his existing contract, Verstappen earns $70 million this season. According to recent reports, the new agreement includes a salary adjustment that will see his annual earnings rise up to $80 million starting next year, making the contract worth up to 80 million euros annually.

The updated deal is also expected to address specific contract clauses that Red Bull management sought to modify. Previously, Verstappen held an opt-out clause allowing him to break his contract if he was not occupying one of the top two positions in the drivers' championship standings by the summer break. Senior executives within the Austrian organization wanted to remove that clause following the high-profile departures of former team principal Christian Horner and motorsport advisor Helmut Marko.

Christian Horner served as Red Bull Racing team principal from its inception in 2005, while Dr Helmut Marko oversaw Red Bull's driver development program and driver contracts. Their departures triggered a wider restructuring within the team's leadership management.

Commitment despite a difficult season

The contract extension comes during a challenging campaign for Red Bull Racing. The team has struggled for competitiveness this season, and Verstappen has yet to secure a race victory. Despite the difficult results on track, the Dutch driver emphasized that his faith in the team remains unbroken.

Formula 1 announced that Max Verstappen and Red Bull Racing have agreed a new deal until the end of 2030.

In statements following the contract announcement, Verstappen said he was really happy with the extension. He said the team possesses the best people in Formula 1 and expressed excitement about continuing to work together to return Red Bull to the top of the grid, describing that goal as the ultimate objective everyone at the organization is striving for.

Verstappen offered specific thanks to Red Bull, team boss Laurent, and everyone at Oracle Red Bull Racing for their continued trust in him. He said working alongside Laurent for more than a year had been excellent, noting that he sees a clear vision for the team's future. He added that everyone working at the team's headquarters in Milton Keynes believes in the project being built, and stated that he is looking forward to the next chapter of fighting for race victories and challenging for world championships.
