OSINT project DroneBomber reported about 1,500 messages recording drone detections and shootdowns over Moscow and Moscow Oblast as Russian air defenses intercepted thousands of UAVs. Analysis from a Russian monitoring channel indicated that approximately 93 percent of the drones, amounting to around 1,400 units, were shot down on the first and second defense lines within the region.
The monitoring channel stated that about 6 percent, or up to 100 drones, reached the third line near the Moscow Ring Road, while only a single drone reached the Russian capital. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin wrote on his social media page that 6,225 UAVs flew toward Moscow Oblast between 00:00 on July 1 and 23:59 on July 31. He said air defense forces neutralized most on distant approaches and destroyed 780 drones near Moscow.
Maps accompanying the analysis show dense interception locations around the capital alongside Russian air defense positions. Researchers noted that drones tested approaches from all directions without finding open corridors, concluding that the data does not show air defense exhaustion around Moscow. Confirmed targets hit over the past two months include the Kapotnya oil refinery in June, a space communications center in Dubna, Wildberries logistics facilities, and industrial zones, along with isolated house damage from falling debris.
Refinery and logistics warehouse strikes
Ukrainian drone attacks also targeted infrastructure further inside Russia, news agency UNIAN reported. An August 6 attack struck the Slavneft-YANOS Novo-Yaroslavsky Oil Refinery in Yaroslavl, causing a fire at one of Russia's five largest refineries, which processes about 15 million tons of oil annually. Ukrainian drones have repeatedly hit this refinery, which burned several times in 2026. Strikes also targeted a refinery in Bashkortostan, where residents posted videos showing explosions and black smoke.
On the night of August 5, drones struck Wildberries warehouses in Tatarstan and Aleksin in Tula Oblast. Tula Oblast Governor Dmitry Milyaev and company representatives confirmed a fire after a drone crashed onto the Aleksin sorting center. UNIAN noted this was the eighth of the 15 largest Wildberries warehouses hit by Ukraine.
