Gerardo Saldaña has closed his family business to remain in Lima and support his daughter, former La Bella Luz singer Naldy Saldaña, following her sexual harassment complaint against former musical director César Sánchez Chavesta.
The singer's parents traveled to the Peruvian capital from their home in Piura to stand alongside their daughter as authorities conduct official proceedings into allegations of sexual harassment and improper touching.
Naldy Saldaña rose to prominence as a lead vocalist for La Bella Luz, a well known Peruvian cumbia group. Her family operated a cevichería, a traditional seafood restaurant, in the northern city of Piura before relocating temporarily to Lima to assist her with the investigation.
Closure of the family business in Piura
In statements provided to the television program América hoy, Gerardo Saldaña revealed that he and his wife shut down their restaurant to remain in Lima during the ongoing legal procedures.
He explained that the family continues to stay in the capital and cannot open the business, having left their work behind to remain by their daughter's side and offer their full support.
Gerardo Saldaña stressed that protecting Naldy and ensuring the investigation progresses takes precedence over their commercial activities in Piura.
Street assault at Depincri and family reaction
The legal process has taken place amid heightened tension surrounding the singer's appearances at the Department of Criminal Investigation (Depincri), where Naldy Saldaña was physically confronted and attacked by a woman in the street upon her arrival.
Television presenter Valeria Piazza publicly expressed indignation over the street aggression, asserting that the former band member is the victim in the situation.
Gerardo Saldaña described the deep emotional toll the case has taken on the family, stating that viewing and re-examining images of the alleged sexual aggression has caused tremendous pain and suffering for both parents.
Legal proceedings and defense response
The case has also prompted statements from within the musical group, with César Sánchez Chavesta's nephew, Óscar Junior, addressing his uncle's future with La Bella Luz following the formal filing of the complaint.
Regarding claims by the defense attorney for César Sánchez Chavesta, who reportedly referred to the events as an error, Gerardo Saldaña declined to comment extensively, stating that the matter is being managed by their lawyer.
He expressed confidence that the upcoming legal proceedings will allow all facts to come to light and ensure that justice is served for his daughter.
