Skincare brand Neutrogena has publicly acknowledged that it made actress Hayden Panettiere feel unsupported after she revealed her struggles with postpartum depression, following intense social media backlash after her death.
In a statement released on its official Instagram account on Thursday, the company described Panettiere as a valuable member of its community and expressed regret that their collaboration had failed to reflect the values the brand aims to project.

The controversy dates back to May, when Panettiere disclosed in radio interviews, her memoirs, and media appearances that Neutrogena had tried to terminate their professional partnership after she publicly shared her experience with postpartum depression following the birth of her daughter, Kaya, in 2014. Panettiere had served as a brand ambassador for Neutrogena for more than a decade.
Her remarks resurfaced online following her death, triggering renewed criticism of the cosmetics company and prompt calls across social media platforms for a consumer boycott.
Funding for postpartum depression support
In response to the public outcry, Neutrogena announced plans to make a significant financial investment alongside an established community health organisation. The initiative aims to expand access to support services for women, specifically including care for postpartum depression.
The company also acknowledged Panettiere for her bravery in speaking openly about her mental health struggles. Neutrogena noted that her testimony helped initiate vital public discussion and raise awareness about an issue that affects many women.
Investigation into the actress's death
Panettiere, known for starring in the television series Heroes and the Scream film franchise, died last Sunday at a residence in South Carolina at the age of 36.
Her partner, actor Brian Hickerson, and his brother discovered her and notified emergency services. Authorities reported that a preliminary autopsy revealed no signs of violence.
Law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death. The United States Drug Enforcement Administration has also joined the inquiry to help determine the exact cause of death.
Early career and personal life
Born and raised in Palisades, New York, Panettiere grew up in a family connected to entertainment and public service. Her mother was a soap opera actress, and her father served as a fire department captain.
She began acting on television as a child, appearing in series including Ally McBeal and Malcolm in the Middle before gaining widespread fame on Heroes.
Panettiere became a mother in 2014, giving birth to her daughter, Kaya, from her relationship with former Ukrainian professional boxer Wladimir Klitschko.
