OFI Crete manager Christos Kontis has warned his team that their Europa League play-off return leg against CSKA Sofia starts at 0-0.
The Cretan side travel to Sofia for the second leg on August 27 at 21:00 holding a 3-0 cushion from the first leg in Heraklion, putting them on the brink of qualifying for the Europa League main stage.
Speaking at a press conference on August 26, Kontis insisted that a three-goal lead offers no guarantee of progress and urged his players to maintain total focus.
OFI Crete, based in the Cretan capital of Heraklion, compete in Greece's Super League, while CSKA Sofia are among Bulgaria's most prominent clubs. The UEFA Europa League is Europe's secondary club competition, featuring a 36-team League Phase for qualifying sides.
Defensive discipline and tactical preparation
Kontis stressed the necessity of fielding an organized and compact unit in Sofia. He stated that defensive work must begin with the attacking line to deny space and prevent scoring opportunities.
Reflecting on the first fixture at the Pankritio Stadium, Kontis acknowledged that CSKA Sofia presented significant challenges despite the 3-0 scoreline. He anticipated an intense and aggressive performance from the host team in Bulgaria.
