Ray MacDonald: Thai-British Actor Dies in Bangkok at 49

Thai-British actor and television presenter Ray MacDonald died unexpectedly at the age of 49 at his home in Bangkok on Wednesday, August 19. His wife, Sirinya Jintanawararak, found him unresponsive on a couch in their residence.

Emergency services were called to the scene after Jintanawararak discovered him, and MacDonald was declared dead shortly afterward. British newspaper The Sun reported that his wife initially believed he was sleeping at around 6:20 a.m. and attempted to wake him so he could take their son to school.

Police officers said local security cameras appeared to record the moment MacDonald collapsed onto the sofa at approximately 12:12 a.m. early Wednesday morning.

Medical findings and underlying heart condition

Authorities initially attributed the cause of death to a heart problem. Actor Chakrit Yamnam, a close friend of MacDonald, stated on Thursday that family members confirmed the actor suffered from severe blockages in all three of his main coronary arteries.

Yamnam said the narrowing of blood vessels ranged between 70% and 90%. The condition drastically reduced blood flow to his heart and caused myocardial ischemia.

The cardiac issue had shown no prior warning signs before his sudden collapse. Coronary artery disease occurs when major blood vessels supplying the heart become narrowed by deposits, restricting oxygen supply to the heart muscle.

Television hosting and film career achievements

MacDonald first rose to fame in Thailand during the 1990s as a host for television shows aimed at young audiences. He later expanded his career into travel specials and feature film acting.

His work in cinema earned him Thailand's Suphannahong National Film Award for Best Actor in two consecutive years. He received his first award in 1997 for his performance in Fun Bar Karaoke and won again in 1998 for Love: Designated.

The Suphannahong award is considered one of the highest honors in the Thai film industry. Media outlet Univision reported that MacDonald also earned recognition for his role in the drama production Dear Galileo, establishing a long career across Thai television and cinema.
