Reigning champion Almendrades said the tournament holds special significance because Peru will host the Red Bull Batalla International Final for the first time in more than ten years. He said representing the host nation in front of a local crowd provides an invaluable incentive that will make the battles extremely demanding.
Almendrades will not compete in the elimination bracket this season. He will instead act as a mentor, perform freestyle demonstrations, and hand over the trophy to the winner.
