Rosalía Jokes About Open Relationships at Rio Concert

Spanish singer Rosalía joked playfully about open relationships during her first concert in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, August 11, after Brazilian artist Marina Sena shared a story about her personal life on stage.

Speaking to the audience during a confessional segment of the show, Sena revealed that she accepted an open relationship proposal when she was 21 years old, adding that she ended up having a different boyfriend every week for a period of time.

Rosalía responded with laughter, telling the crowd that people ask for fire and then cannot stand the heat.

Rosalía is a Spanish singer and songwriter known for fusing traditional flamenco with modern urban music and electronic pop. Sena is recognized as one of the prominent voices of the new generation of Brazilian music, known for hit songs such as Ai que delícia o verão and Mande um sinal.

Confession on stage

The conversation took place during a confessional segment that formed part of the concert at the Farmasi Arena, which proved to be one of the most intimate moments between Rosalía and the predominantly local audience.

Sena explained to the audience that at 21, she fell in love with a man who did not initially reciprocate her feelings. When the couple eventually started a relationship, the man proposed opening it to other partners.

The Brazilian singer confessed that she took the suggestion very much to heart, which led to her having a new boyfriend almost every week for a period of time. Her admission surprised the crowd before Rosalía delivered her humorous response.

The concert took place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil's second largest city, where local residents are known as Cariocas. The performance marked Rosalía's debut concert in the city.

Spectacle and atmosphere

Before the arena doors opened, fans waited outside for hours in open air, wearing raincoats during an intense rainstorm. Once inside, the audience joined in a theatrical production that combined operatic vocals, sacred music, and electronic pop.

The staging featured performers dressed as angels, brides, and demons as part of a visual concept created for the venue. Observers described the atmosphere inside the arena as resembling a witches' sabbath as fans danced and sang along with the artist.

Rosalía quickly connected with her followers throughout the night, displaying warmth on stage and speaking in clear Portuguese that occasionally shifted into Portuñol. Portuñol refers to a blend of Portuguese and Spanish spoken across Latin America.

Upcoming tour dates

Following her Monday performance, Rosalía will give a second concert in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday, August 12.

She will then travel to Mexico, where she has eight performances scheduled across the country. The tour will conclude in San Juan, Puerto Rico, on September 3.
