A 37-year-old operating room nurse has been sentenced to four years in a general-regime penal colony after disfiguring a physical education teacher with a broken bottle during a nightclub dispute in Kirov, Russia.

A local court convicted the medical worker over the violent attack, which left the 25-year-old victim with deep lacerations across her face. In addition to the prison term, the court ordered the defendant to pay 500,000 rubles in moral damages compensation and cover all expenses for the victim to undergo reconstructive plastic surgery.
The assault took place on the dance floor of a nightclub in Kirov, according to details reported by the Baza news channel on Telegram. The victim, a physical education teacher who played for the Kirov Oblast regional volleyball team, accidentally bumped shoulders with the nurse while dancing. The nurse, who was off duty after finishing a shift in an operating department, was intoxicated at the time of the altercation.
Following the accidental contact, the nurse pursued the young teacher across the dance floor. When she caught up with her, she struck the athlete over the head with a beer bottle. The nurse then used the resulting shattered bottle neck to slash the victim across her face, inflicting deep, torn wounds.
Impact on athletic career
The severe facial injuries effectively halted the victim's sports career. Once an active member of the regional volleyball team, the athlete saw her athletic trajectory decline sharply following the assault. She currently requires complex plastic surgery to repair the extensive facial scarring caused by the attack.
The victim holds the title of Candidate for Master of Sports, a prestigious athletic rank in the Russian national sports classification system awarded to competitors who meet stringent performance criteria in regional and national events. Kirov, where the crime took place, is the administrative center of Kirov Oblast, situated along the Vyatka River in western Russia.
Sentence appeal planned
Following the judicial proceedings, the defendant was taken into custody to serve her sentence in a general-regime penal colony, which is the standard facility type within the Russian federal penitentiary system for individuals convicted of serious crimes. However, the legal proceedings regarding the case remain ongoing.
Both the victim and her defense lawyer stated that they consider the four-year prison sentence far too lenient given the severity of the disfigurement and the life-altering consequences of the attack. They confirmed that they plan to appeal the court ruling to seek a stiffer penalty against the convicted nurse.
