The comparative test demonstrated that consumer choice depends on daily travel routes and specific physical needs rather than price alone. Standard two-wheel models sold in supermarkets for around 24 euros are suitable for smooth paths without obstacles, but they struggle on uneven surfaces.
For shoppers negotiating pavements and staircases, six-wheel drive models available at the same 24-euro price point provide significantly better movement. High-end trolleys featuring an aluminium chassis, an interchangeable bag and a three-year guarantee cost 80 euros, with the higher price justified by enhanced durability and ease of handling.
Back health and ergonomic design
Camille Beaulieu, an osteopath practicing in Paris, advised shoppers to use a rolling trolley instead of carrying heavy grocery bags at arm's length. Speaking to Tomei during the broadcast, Beaulieu explained that carrying traditional bags places excessive strain on the human back.
Osteopaths specialize in manual therapy to prevent spinal misalignment and musculoskeletal injuries caused by improper weight distribution. Beaulieu highlighted four-wheel trolleys pushed in front of the body like a child's stroller as the most ergonomic design. This model prevents twisting of the spinal column and can also function as a supportive walking frame for senior citizens.
Bag capacity and fresh food protection
Selecting the correct storage volume is equally critical for shoppers depending on household size and shopping habits. Single individuals require a capacity of 30 to 40 litres, while families need 45 to 60 litres. Buyers purchasing large quantities of fresh fruit and vegetables should select models exceeding 60 litres.
The broadcast also advised consumers to choose a trolley equipped with an insulated bag to preserve fresh and chilled foods during transit. Because a shopping trolley is a daily companion carried on frequent trips, buyers were encouraged to select a design that matches their personal aesthetic preferences.
