European countries have demanded that Turkey provide origin documentation for exported gas to ensure it does not come from Russia, Turkish Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar said on television channel A Haber.
Bayraktar said that even if the origin of gas is unknown, the fuel must be legally registered, and Turkey is required to submit documents to European nations confirming which country owns it.
Black Sea supplies and LNG imports
European partners hope to obtain gas from Turkey's Black Sea fields, Bayraktar said, though Ankara consumes significant volumes of that resource itself.
In July, Europe reduced its purchases of liquefied natural gas to the lowest level since 2024. Deliveries from LNG terminals to the European Union gas transport network fell by 26 percent year on year.
