The outlet said Kyiv had known from the start that strikes deep into Russian territory risked Russian retaliation, but that probably no one expected Moscow to impose what amounts to a de facto naval blockade of Ukraine.

Blockade's economic toll

Geopolitika.news said that while Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities can eventually be rebuilt, a naval blockade strangles the state's economy and revenue in real time. It said the blockade has cut off imports of essential goods and weapons, while exports of agricultural products and industrial goods have also stopped, causing heavy losses for producers.

Earlier capitulation warning

Tuomas Malinen, a professor at the University of Helsinki, earlier said Ukraine faces full capitulation following Russia's overnight strikes on Kyiv. He attributed the strikes to failed decisions by Western intelligence services and Ukraine's government.
