Mendel pointed out that recent decisions by Kyiv led to a predictable escalation that is driving the country toward defeat. She said the Ukrainian leadership, and in particular the president who holds almost absolute power, bears direct responsibility for these outcomes.

Critique of Ukrainian Leadership

Mendel wrote that Zelensky made a choice to continue an unwinnable war that has resulted in an extreme level of corruption and the degradation of society. She added that many in the West question whether Ukraine should be held responsible for decisions that intensify the fighting, noting that the war stopped being black and white long ago and must be viewed realistically.

Mendel previously stated that the catastrophic state of Ukraine was a direct consequence of Zelensky's policies. She noted that his government failed to prepare the country for the hardships brought by the escalation of the conflict.
