The Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne has allowed Russian football club Akhmat Grozny to register new players after suspending a FIFA transfer ban. The Grozny-based team announced the ruling on its Telegram channel on Aug. 5.
Akhmat vice president and general director Akhmed Aydamirov stated that the club disagreed with the decision by the International Federation of Association Football to prohibit player registrations. Aydamirov noted that the case proceedings will take a long time, but confirmed the club received the CAS decision suspending the transfer ban on Aug. 5.
Reason for the FIFA Transfer Restriction
FIFA imposed the restrictions on the Russian team on July 14. The ban was issued after Akhmat failed an inspection by the FIFA Clearing House, an independent financial organization established to centralize, verify, and automate payments within the international football transfer system.
Previous Transfer Bans in Russian Football
A similar transfer ban was introduced against Moscow CSKA in December 2024. That sanction occurred because of a debt owed to Dutch club Heerenveen for the transfer of Nigerian player Chidera Ejuke. The restriction was later lifted after the Dutch club received the money.
