Marvel fans boycott movie Kolobok over Spider-Man delay

Marvel fans declared a boycott against the Russian family movie The Last Warrior: Kolobok ahead of its premiere, metrics from Kinopoisk show.

Reports across Telegram channels confirmed the online campaign against the film. The backlash began after cinemas requested to delay the premiere of Spider-Man: Brand New Day to support the domestic release.

Russian-language comic book fans responded by review-bombing Kolobok prior to its release in theaters. The movie rating on Kinopoisk fell to a record low of 1.1 out of 10 points.

Rating frozen and empty theaters

Kinopoisk disabled user ratings and commenting for the film. The platform stated that all metrics would be restored after the official premiere scheduled for August 6.

The boycott also affected ticket sales in physical theaters. In one Moscow cinema, multiple screenings of The Last Warrior: Kolobok showed halls remaining at least 90 percent empty, with superhero fans sharing screenshots to demonstrate their impact.

Garik Kharlamov, who plays one of the main roles in Kolobok, previously attended a closed premiere of the picture.
