More people in France are choosing to spend their summer holidays close to home, at the seaside or in the countryside, rather than travelling far away, according to TF1info.
The report described the start of the summer break as the most anticipated moment of the year, offering three weeks of rest away from it all. It said the trend toward staying local is continuing again this summer.
Fuel costs drive the shift
The report linked the trend to rising fuel prices, which have climbed to nearly two euros a litre in France. It said the choice has become a real cost calculation for households.
Staying closer to home means lower spending and less stress, the report said. It added that the money saved would allow holidaymakers to treat themselves elsewhere.
