Georgios Angelopoulos, president of Olympiacos's basketball club, visited the Stadio Eirinis kai Filias (SEF) in Piraeus over the weekend to inspect renovation works taking place across the venue, at one point climbing onto a bulldozer at the construction site.
In the main arena, the stands have already been removed and are being reshaped to make way for new suites. Work has also begun on lifting the existing floor, since the new SEF parquet will sit roughly three metres lower than before, a change designed to significantly increase the arena's capacity and bring spectators closer to the court on all four sides.
Training facility nearly finished
While work in the main hall is moving quickly, the renovation of the first team's training facility is almost complete, with only a few finishing touches left to add.
Olympiacos's players are already training in hall 3 of the venue, which will now serve as their permanent base for daily training sessions.
Completion timeline
The state-of-the-art training centre is expected to be fully operational by mid-September, the same date set for delivery of the academy's own courts. Some details still remain to be finalised for the club's new offices.

SEF, formally known as the Stadio Eirinis kai Filias, is Olympiacos's home basketball venue in Piraeus. Olympiacos is one of the most successful clubs in European basketball, with multiple EuroLeague titles to its name, and the Angelopoulos family has long owned and financed the club.
The Angelopoulos brothers have already provided 15 million euros for the works being carried out at SEF.
