Armando Gonzalez signs five-year deal with Olympiacos

Mexican striker Armando Gonzalez has signed a five-year contract with Greek club Olympiacos after successfully passing his medical and ergometric tests in Piraeus.

The 23-year-old forward will earn an annual salary of 1.5 million euros under the terms of the agreement. The contract signing completed the formal procedure of his transfer, following his arrival in Greece a day earlier on August 21, 2026. The official announcement of the move was subsequently issued by the Piraeus club.

Olympiacos agreed a financial package worth up to 10.5 million euros with Mexican side Chivas to secure the international attacker. The transaction includes an initial payment of 8.5 million euros, alongside an additional 2 million euros in performance-related bonuses. Chivas will also retain a 20 percent sell-on clause for the striker.

Upon landing in Greece ahead of finalizing the transfer, Gonzalez expressed his commitment to his new supporters, stating that he would do everything for the fans.

Attacking options and squad depth

Gonzalez arrives at the Karaiskakis Stadium to bolster the attacking options available to Olympiacos manager José Luis Mendilibar. The Mexican forward joins the frontline alongside Moroccan international striker Ayoub El Kaabi.

With the Spanish head coach also counting Portuguese forward Jota Silva as an option at the head of the attack, the arrival of Gonzalez completes a three-man unit for the Olympiacos strike force ahead of the campaign.

Season opening victory and stadium presence

The transfer coincides with Olympiacos starting their domestic season with a 1-0 victory over Atromitos at the Karaiskakis Stadium. Defender David Carmo secured the three points for the home side with the decisive opening goal of the campaign.

Following the opening win, Mendilibar said the team played well and could have scored more goals during the match. Olympiacos basketball head coach Giorgos Bartzokas was also present in the stands at the stadium to support the football team during their fixture.

Olympiacos, based in the port city of Piraeus, is one of the most successful football clubs in Greece and competes in the top-flight Super League. Chivas, officially known as Club Deportivo Guadalajara, is one of Mexico's most prominent professional clubs, competing in Liga MX.
