Olympiacos have announced the signing of 23-year-old striker Armando Gonzalez from Chivas to strengthen their attacking options. Gonzalez, nicknamed "Hormiga," said he is thrilled with the move.
In an interview with Mexican broadcaster TUDN, Gonzalez said he was not bothered by anything said outside his close circle about his transfer to Olympiacos, and stressed he was certain he had found the right place to continue his career.
He said he did not care what others said, only what he himself did, adding that the club had genuinely wanted him, which was obvious from the offer they made him and from everything else about the deal. He said that if a team wanted him that much, it was because they knew what he could do.
Eager for his debut
Gonzalez said there was no point coming to Olympiacos if he had not yet achieved anything, adding he still had a lot to do. He said he could not wait to play his first match and start scoring goals, which he said he loved most of all. He added that he was ready to play, and that it was now up to the coach.
He said he was always available for whatever was asked of him, whether one minute or five minutes, and that he would always give 100 percent.
A push for the nickname on his shirt
Gonzalez said he had asked the club to print "Hormiga," Spanish for "Ant," on the back of his shirt. He said they would see if that was possible, and if not he would go with "A. Gonzalez," which he said was also fine. He said the club was looking into whether it could be done, but that he really wanted to wear "Hormiga."
