PASOK Unveils 21 New Members for Election Expansion Team

Greece's Panhellenic Socialist Movement, known as PASOK, has unveiled 21 new figures joining its political expansion committee ahead of the country's upcoming elections.

The party committee confirmed the roster during an evening meeting on Monday, November 2, 2026, marking the latest phase in its effort to attract figures from across the political Centre and the broader centre-left.

The announcement secures the participation of the 21 professionals, scholars, former local officials, and civic figures in PASOK's election campaign as the party seeks to broaden its electoral base.

Local government and regional officials

Several former prefects and regional administrators are among the most prominent political veterans on the list. In Greece, prefects previously served as elected leaders of prefectures across the country before major administrative reforms restructured local government.

Thymios Sokos, a jurist who previously served as prefect of Aetolia-Acarnania and as mayor of Agrinio, has joined the expansion effort alongside Charalampos Kafyras, an agronomist and former prefect of Elis.

Apostolos Papatolias, an associate professor of public administration who holds a doctorate in public law and previously served as prefect of Magnesia, was also named to the committee.

Other municipal officials on the roster include Kostas Barlas, a physician and former mayor of Makryneia, and Nikolaos Fotiadis, a businessman and livestock breeder who formerly served as a prefectural councillor in Pieria and as a municipal councillor in Katerini.

Local government official Alexandros Kapodistrias, who holds a doctorate in sociology, and Aikaterini Lampou, a lawyer and municipal councillor in the western Greek town of Thermos, complete the group of regional leaders.

Academic and legal figures join campaign

The new roster draws heavily from Greek universities, legal institutions, and public administration. Higher education faculty joining the campaign include Sofia Delipalla, a professor at the University of Macedonia, and Kostas Kontzoglou, a professor of medicine at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

Giorgos Farantos, who holds a doctorate from the University of West Attica, has also joined the expansion group, adding further academic research background to the team.

The legal profession is represented by Giorgos Gesoulis, a lawyer admitted to Greece's Supreme Civil and Criminal Court, the Areios Pagos. Dimosthenis Bakopoulos, a practising lawyer and lecturer at the Hellenic Air Force Academy, known as the Ikaroi School, was also confirmed on the list.

State administration and economic planning are represented by Giorgos Mitsanis, an economist and director within the Ministry of Finance, alongside private sector business consultant and economist Giannis Taxidis.

Military, union and civic representatives

PASOK has also drawn on military, organised labour, and civic movement leaders to widen its appeal. Retired vice admiral Stelios Fenekos, who serves as president of the political movement Society of Values, is among the notable figures joining the initiative.

Organised labour is represented by Dimitris Koutsiavtis, the former president of the Greek train drivers' union within the Hellenic Railway Federation.

Civil society and environmental groups are represented by Giorgos Christou, an environmentalist and president of the civic movement EMPROS, and Kallirroi Avdi, a sociologist with expertise in business administration.

The creative and communications sector is represented by theatre and film director Vasilis Kesisoglou, surveying engineer Apostolos Antonoudis, and advertising executive Giannis Karapanagiotidis.

Party leadership and outreach strategy

The expansion committee is leading PASOK's broader initiative to build alliances across the opposition spectrum. Senior party figures have held discussions with figures from the political Centre and left as parliamentary battle lines take shape.

The outreach process has engaged prominent parliamentarians and former ministers as PASOK seeks to present a united alternative to the governing New Democracy party.

Longstanding party figures, including veteran parliamentarian and former government minister Kostas Skandalidis, continue to support the expansion drive as the party coordinates its campaign machinery.

PASOK stated that its dedicated committee will continue its outreach work in the coming period, holding further discussions with political cadres and civil society figures ahead of the national vote.
