Prime Video Pledges $2 Billion for Latin American Slate

Prime Video announced plans in Mexico City to invest more than $2 billion across Latin America between 2027 and 2030 while expanding its regional content.

The streaming platform aims to more than double its original productions in the region, targeting more than 25 original titles in 2027 across countries where it has operated for nearly a decade.

Executives presented the upcoming catalog at the Prime Video Presents event, drawing representatives from Mexico, Brazil, Colombia, Argentina, and Chile. The multi-billion-dollar investment will be directed toward original content, licensed titles, and sports broadcasting through 2030.

Kelly Day, the international vice president of Prime Video, described Latin America as one of the platform's primary target audiences. She noted that over the past twelve months, the region generated one of the largest proportions of viewers worldwide for the service's 15 biggest global hits.

Day highlighted the global performance of several regional productions, including the Mexican series Mentiras, Colombia's Betty la Fea: La Historia Continúa, Brazil's Tremembé, and Chile's La casa de los espíritus.

Mexican singer and actress Belinda will star in a new drama series centered on the controversial case of Florence Cassez. Cassez, a French national, was arrested and imprisoned in Mexico in 2005 on charges of kidnapping and organized crime. The project marks Belinda's return to the streaming service following her previous work on the platform.

Actor Gael García Bernal will lead the cast of Los Culpables. The dramatic film follows a lawyer who faces a legal and moral dilemma when forced to choose between pursuing true justice or bowing to a corrupt system.

Actor Roberto Sosa will star in La venta, a production blending comedy and adventure. The storyline moves between the southern Mexican state of Chiapas and Cuba, incorporating narrative elements surrounding the historical figure of revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

The platform also announced the fourth season of the comedy-drama El juego de las llaves, the ninth season of the comedy competition LOL, and the debut of Por catálogo, starring Carolina Miranda, Yany Prado, and Samadhi Zendejas.

In sports, Prime Video secured a four-year agreement to broadcast matches of the Mexican national football team. The coverage begins on September 26, when Mexico plays Colombia in an international friendly match.
