Russia's Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy has patented an anti-torpedo underwater vehicle designed to protect submarines from enemy strikes.
Russian state news agency TASS reported on the official patent document for the defensive craft. The specialized device operates by simulating a full-sized submarine targeted by an incoming torpedo, receiving the impact itself rather than the actual submarine.

The Admiral N. G. Kuznetsov Naval Academy, located in Saint Petersburg, serves as the principal military educational and scientific center for officers of the Russian Navy. Submarine defense relies on anti-torpedo craft and decoys designed to lure homing munitions away from crewed vessels or physically intercept incoming explosives during maritime battles.
American torpedo developments
The Russian patent filing coincides with ongoing global developments in airborne and naval weaponry. Tactical publication Defense News previously reported that the United States Navy aims to equip its forces with a new air-launched weapon known as the Silent Anvil Air-Launched Torpedo, abbreviated as SAA-LT.
According to the Defense News report, the prospective air-launched torpedo will operate as a gliding munition. Gliding munitions use aerodynamic wings to travel through the air after launch from aircraft, allowing maritime patrol planes and helicopters to release torpedoes from greater distances before they enter the water.
Pacific Ocean strategic theater
Russian military coverage has also focused on potential oceanic theaters for advanced undersea weapon systems. In August, RIA Novosti columnist Andrei Kots wrote that the Pacific Ocean could serve as the ideal theater of military operations for Russia's Poseidon nuclear torpedo.
In his report, Kots described the Poseidon system as a strategic trump card for Russia. The Poseidon is an autonomous nuclear-powered underwater drone engineered to travel across vast ocean distances, making the deep waters of the Pacific Ocean a key strategic domain for naval operations.
