Slovak striker Tomas Bobcek has signed a five-year contract with Italian side Frosinone Calcio from Polish club Lechia Gdansk.
The forward finished as the leading marksman in the Ekstraklasa, Poland's top football division, scoring 20 goals despite Lechia Gdansk suffering relegation at the end of the season. Lechia, based in the northern port city of Gdansk, confirmed the transfer in an official statement, while thanking the Slovak striker on social media platform X for his goals and contributions during his time at the club.
Media reports state that Frosinone will pay a base fee of 10.7 million euros for Bobcek, with potential add-ons taking the total deal to 13 million euros. That figure represents a new transfer record for the Ekstraklasa, surpassing the previous benchmark of 11 million euros. The previous league record was shared by Jakub Moder following his move from Lech Poznan to Brighton, Kacper Kozlowski from Pogon Szczecin to Brighton, and Ante Crnac from Rakow Czestochowa to Norwich City.
Record transfer fee details
The deal delivers a substantial financial return for Lechia Gdansk, who purchased Bobcek from Slovakian top-flight club MFK Ruzomberok for 600,000 euros in the summer of 2023. Under the terms of that initial transfer, Ruzomberok retained a 25 percent sell-on clause. The Slovakian side will receive 3.25 million euros if all performance bonus criteria are met. In May, journalist Konrad Ferszter reported on Polish sports portal Sport.pl that Lechia expected to sell the forward for an Ekstraklasa record sum before the prolonged transfer negotiations were finalised.
Frosinone transfer record and squad competition
Bobcek also becomes the most expensive player purchased by Frosinone Calcio in the club's history. Frosinone, based in the Lazio region of central Italy, had already broken their transfer record earlier in the current transfer window by acquiring Romano Schmid from German Bundesliga club Werder Bremen for 8.5 million euros. That deal broke the earlier mark held by Marco Brescianini following his 6.2 million euro arrival from Italian giants AC Milan.
At Frosinone, Bobcek will compete for a starting place in attack against Romanian forward Daniel Birligea, Italian striker Antonio Raimondo, and Venezuelan player Alejandro Cichero. The newly promoted Serie A club opened their domestic league campaign with a 1-0 defeat against Turin side Juventus, where defender Gleison Bremer scored the decisive goal. Frosinone have established avoiding relegation and securing top-flight survival as their primary target for the Serie A season.
